In memory of Officer George Dierolf

nophoto-lrgOfficer George Dierolf died on Jan.15, 1907 of injuries he sustained approximately 15 years prior while making a felony arrest.

A news article of the day states that Officer Dierolf was on foot patrol on Market Street when he noticed a subject breaking into the First National Bank of Chester City. Officer Dierolf arrested the subject and walked him back to the police station under the cover of his service revolver.

While at the station, Officer Dierolf began to unlock a large door to gain access to the holding area, when the subject produced an iron pipe and struck Officer Dierolf about the head. Officer Deirolf suffered for 15 years before the injury finally claimed his life.

Officer Dierolf was born in Germany and served in the British navy before coming to America.
