In memory of Officer Mark W. Allen Jr.
On February 3rd, 1902, Patrolman Mark W.Allen Jr., of the Chester City Police Department, responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in the area of Third and Pusey Streets. Shortly after his arrival at the scene, Patrolman Allen was shot in the head and leg by Albert West, while trying to calm the domestic dispute between West and his girlfriend.
Patrolman Allen was rushed to the Chester Hospital were he was pronounced dead shortly after admittance.
"When the roll of heroes is called, the name of our fellow citizen" will be enrolled among them said Mayor D.W. Jefferies.
Patrolman Allen's assassin, Albert West, was tried, convicted and executed a year later.
